2011-Fezile Dabi HIV/AIDS Benefit Officially Launched by the Executive Mayor Moeketsi Moshodi. On 3 December 2011, all roads will lead to Abrahamsrust Resort in Sasolburg for the annual Fezile Dabi HIV/AIDS Benefit Music Concert. The annual concert will feature South Africa’s top acts like Zahara, Hugh Masekela, Ringo Madlingozi, Nhlanhla Nciza, Sipho Mabuse, Ntando, Caiphus Semenya and many others. As an annual event, the Fezile Dabi HIV/AIDS Benefit Music Concert seeks to create an ongoing HIV/AIDS public awareness campaign and further raise funds for various charity organisations within the district. Each year the municipality selects a certain number of non-profit organisations as beneficiaries. To pursue a societal collective responsibility, the whole encompassing theme of this year’s event is “it begins with you”. For the past three years this concert has distributed about R 1,670 000, to about eighteen non-governmental organizations across Fezile Dabi.

100 Days Programme – Ngwathe keeps kids warm

Article 5 Ngwathe Municipality – The new mayor Councillor Jonas Ramokhoase and Speaker Mabiza Magashule alongside councillors, kick started their 100 days programme by distributing blankets to pre-schools in Kwakwatsi, Koppies.

“The purpose of this exercise is to ensure that our pre-schools are assisted in terms of resources that make it easy for them to take care of our kids. Remember its winter and most of these young kids are from disadvantaged families. Some of these kids are disabled and needs special attention. As municipal leadership, we therefore found it so important that as we unleash our 100 days programme, we focus on the needy. We care for the kids because they represent our future” said Ngwathe Speaker, Mabiza Magashule.

The 2011/12 Draft Budget with Ernest Mohlahlo Every year as Municipalities in South Africa we are expected to table both the draft budget and the Integrated Development plan before the public for inputs and suggestions. This is done as part of making sure that communities have a say in far as municipal priorities are concerned. In this edition of Fezile Dabi News we look at the Fezile Dabi 2011/12 budget with the Chief Financial Officer Mr. Ernest Mohlahlo. We look at the basis that informs the 2011/12 budget and allocation to each of the priorities of the Municipality as outlined in the Integrated Development Plan. Over the last five years Fezile Dabi District Municipality has achieved a lot and has earned the status of being among the best run Municipalities in South Africa. One of the proud moments of this Municipality is maintaining unqualified audit reports for 2007/8; 2008/8; and 2009/10, this is an indication that the Municipality run its finances professionally and can account properly for every cent that it has used. The Municipality has also won number of awards as a proof of good performance, these include Vuna Awards for best Municipality in the Free State; best Municipality in implementing skills development and best Tourist destination , and the empowedex service delivery report putting the municipality number two in country with regard to performance and scoring 76,8 percent.

R 4, 8 Million High Performance Centre handed Over to Metsimaholo by the Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula.

The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Dan Kgothule, handed over the High Performance Centre to Metsimaholo local municipality on June 4, 2011. article 1 The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, amongst them, the Minister of Sport & Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, the newly elected Mayors of Fezile Dabi and Metsimaholo respectively, staff in the MEC office and Sport Officers across the province.

The event was organized in line with the provincial sport activity where every sporting code across the province was playing including the sport for the disabled. These various games were taking place in various sporting fields across Metsimaholo.

It was reported that the cost incurred in the building of this High Performance Centre was a joint venture between the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation which contributed R2.5 million, Fezile Dabi District Municipality contributed R1.2 million and Metsimaholo Local Municipality contributed R1.1 million. All in all the total of R4.8 million funded the project.
